This program is designed for science graduates who
are interested in pursuing a science based graduate
curriculum that includes a research project and the
completion of a thesis under the direction of a faculty
member in the university. Practicing forensic scientists
may take courses at FIU (and transfer up to 6 credits
from another institution), and conduct the research
project in their own laboratory. Short courses (1-2
weeks) and web based courses are being developed to
allow non-resident students to complete the M.S.in F.S.
in approximately 2 - 2.5 years. This program is designed
to prepare students for Leadership roles in laboratories
and to meet the requirements of the DNA Advisory Board
for DNA analysts in the Technical Leader position.

Forensic science is the practical application of science

The Forensic Science option offers broad exposure to:

This course is for people working with children who
might interface with the law, including police officers,
lawyers, social workers and psychologists. It is a course
specially designed to meet the requirements of busy
professionals who are involved with working with children
who are witnesses, victims or offenders. As people taking
the course will come from all parts of the UK (and from
overseas), and many will be working on a full-time basis,
the course is based largely on distance learning principles,
with optional residential conferences. The course has
been developed as a joint venture between the Universities
of Portsmouth and Leeds. The full MSc course is nominally
of three years duration, although students have some
control over the pace at which the course is delivered.
Many students successfully achieve, after two years,
all that is required for the award of Postgraduate Diploma.
