The Department of Microbiology offers graduate
programs leading to the Master of Science, Master
of Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Major
fields of study are diverse and include basic
and applied aspects of virology and bacteriology;
immunology and pathogenic microbiology; and environmental
and applied microbiology. Students may minor in
a variety of related disciplines in the life sciences,
as in other refined environmental and agricultural
sciences. Integrated minors are often selected
in order to allow students to develop a program
that best serves their needs.
Degrees Offered:
M.A.;
M.S.;
Ph.D.
Research Areas:Microbiology; microbial genetics
and molecular biology; pathogenic microbiology;
immunology and virology; microbial ecology; food
and dairy microbiology; microbial evolution; environmental
and applied microbiology

in 1989 by bringing together faculty and students
from the old Departments of Physiology/Anatomy,
Genetics, Anthropology, Botany, Zoology, and Paleontology.
In July 1997, the Department of Human Biodynamics
joined IB. The faculty's interests are diverse
but they are united in the goal of educating and
graduating the best biological scientists in the
world. You have been chosen to be among this elite
group. The progression from student to colleague
of the highly recognized men and women on the
department's faculty is clearly defined and support
is at hand all along the way.
