CWRU offers an intellectually stimulating Ph.D.
and Masters program with extensive research facilities
in a variety of physics disciplines. A Ph.D. student
typically take 18 - 36 credit hours of course
work in addition to his/her dissertation work.
Most students finish their degrees in approximately
five years, and go on to positions in academia,
national laboratories, and industry. Job placement

There is exciting experimental and theoretical
research underway, particularly in the areas of
solid state physics, solar energy, nuclear physics,
and applied optics. There is a high level of interdepartmental
activity, both in research and in instruction.
The Physics department has ongoing collaborations
with the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering
Department, the Department of Chemistry and Geochemistry,
and the Division of Engineering, among others.
Physics also participates with several departments
in the interdisciplinary Materials Science graduate
program.
